Field notes: Male Mason Bee drinking nectar
This male mason bee was moving very slowly in search of nourishment. The temperature was 50ºf which is a bit cold but the pretty pink flowers of the pieris japonica enticed the bee to seek a sip of nectar. These bees are known as “long-tongued” bees and when they are finished drinking, they roll up their tongues and tuck them in their cheek.
